Day 1
The beginning of the project.
The subject injected with the specimens;
Tube A - Hope,
Tube B- Despair,
Will be tested for potency,
effect and relationship.

Day 2
Subject uttering - incomprehensible.
Both specimens are doing well.
equal conditions are given to both.
No differences yet to note,
Although it is too early,
To tell.

Day 3
Tested for any impurities,
Subject emptied of love, lust,
Passion and enthusiasm.
Subject emptied of hate, anger,
Violence and malevolence.
Specimens concentrated-
pure.

Day 4,
Results yielded no answers;
Specimens separated,
Conditions were changed.
Robbed of light hope faltered,
Despair flourished.
results surprising,
Significant.

Day 5,
Remarkable discovery!
It would appear-
The inverse relationship,
Between hope and despair,
Is more complex,
Than imagined.

Day 6,
Despair lost it's potency,
When hope was removed,
From the subject.
Comatose and docile,
Seemingly false hope,
Feeds despair.

Day 7
Disaster!
The balance was disrupted,
An ounce too much of despair,
And the subject rendered useless.
Must find new vict--subject,
And begin test again.

Final analysis;
Hope was weak and fragile and easily overcome by an imbalance of despair shot straight into the blood.
Hope is not sustainable in a normal environment although appears to be growing is in fact decaying.
Despair is a catalyst and feeds on the last pieces of decaying hope. Despair can only grow stronger.
Hope is unreliable and unstable whilst despair is a constant.
Thus it is my conclusion that stable despair is infinitely preferable to faltering misleading 'hope.'

Intersting. Love the concept of this piece.

The development of each 'specimen' is an interesting idea, and you have pulled it off very well :D (Big Grin)

I cant believe i missed this!! especially since it was me that inspired you....oh well better late than never i suppose :) (Smile) strangly enough this seems like something i would write only it seems that you stole my thought from my head LOL good job on this wonderul piece of work. I love the ending on how the "experiments" proved what we have suspected all a long that "hope" was weak and easily destroyed and crushed by so many complex characteristics of the human mind. And somehow the "scientist" can not control despair, perhaps despair has and will always be stronger than hope. This poem leaves the reader with the ability to gain insight on so many things :) (Smile) One thing that stood out to me was when they were about to say victim but instead said subjects...i thought that was a very nice touch :) (Smile)

i feel flattered that i could inspire something this good...perhaps i should inspire you more often :) (Smile) anyway...good job on the poem it was awesome

You made me laff really loud. I don't think this is a dark poem however it's a parody on a dark poem, it's really hilarious.

More often than not, truth is the anti-hope, not despair. So it is really only possible to gauge the strength of 'hope' in a purely fantastic setting. Reality shows it to be much stronger than it is. When, in fact, what most people mistake for hope... is really mania. And, denial. It is also significant that truth is very opposed to despair. It makes you wonder what kind of parasitic relationship the two share. I like how your poem demonstrated that. Without hopes to fail us, we would not despair. Without the fear of despair, we would not need to hope.
